Peloton Tread instructor Becs Gentry believes you already have everything you need to be a runner. “If you’ve got sneakers and legs, you can run,” she says, laughing. That no-excuses mindset is wrapped in a love of disco music and an infectious energy that takes the fear out of running and opens up a whole new world of fitness to Peloton Members.
A native of Worcestershire, England, “smack bang in the middle of the country,” Becs was very active in sports like tennis and lacrosse, inspired by her parents’ serious involvement in their county racquetball league. When Becs landed her first job in London at the Financial Times, she walked an hour each way to and from work to save the cost of a bus ticket, and realized that what may have thwarted many, she found therapeutic. She describes her craving for exercise as a way of “refocusing her mind on herself.”
Several years later, leading a large a PR firm in London, she still found herself unfulfilled by office life. “My passion for running stemmed from it being my release from a job I didn’t feel great doing anymore,” says Becs. She took a leap of faith and left the security of her job to apprentice as a personal trainer for three months, with no pay and long hours, and still remembers it as a “fun and momentous time in her life.” Her intense passion for exercise ignited the athletes around her, and she took on several leadership roles at the world's top gyms and training programs, training the best of the best around the world. Becs also became a sought-after marathon trainer, for everyone from first-time runners to elite athletes. She describes her life as very much, “run, run, run”, but wouldn’t have it any other way!
Even now, with all the outlets for exercise she could ask for, Becs still takes time every week to test her own limits, “experiencing endorphins higher than any emotion or reward.” It’s this feeling she hopes Peloton Members will take away from her classes on the Peloton Tread. Becs wants to help Members understand their own expectations, modify them, and inspire them to get into an area of their mind where limitations don’t exist. “The unknown is different for every runner, but the end result is the same. It is that genuine sense of pride runners will feel that is incomparable to anything else in the world.”
