Good news: Once you’ve purchased a Peloton Bike or Bike+, the delivery is pretty hassle free. (Most Members find themselves gearing up for a ride before the delivery truck has even left their driveway!) But there are a few things you can do to prep for your Bike or Bike+ ahead of time that will make delivery day even breezier, not to mention a few accessories you may want to purchase to help with your workouts. Here’s how to get the most out of your Bike from the minute it leaves the truck and enters your house.

Be Home When It Gets Delivered

This may seem slightly obvious, but if you’re going to ride the Bike, then make sure you’re home when it gets delivered. (This goes for anyone in your family planning to use it as well.) “Have the delivery people plug it in, and make sure the tablet works and that your seat moves up and down as well as forward and back,” says Member Karen S. You likely won’t have a problem with your Bike, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Once the Bike is plugged in and ready to go, take some time to make sure it’s set up properly so your form is correct when you ride.

Protect Your Carpet With a Mat

An equipment mat will help protect your floors and prevent sweat from accumulating underneath the Bike, especially if you’re putting it on carpet. “If your Bike is going on carpet, a piece of plywood about 3/4 of an inch thick should go under your mat to help with stability,” Karen says. “We made sure we had the plywood we needed before the Bike was delivered.” Having all the materials you need beforehand will help the delivery team set your Bike up exactly where you want it, while making sure it’s secure and safe to ride on.

Ride Smoother With the Right Shoes

If you’re new to indoor cycling, you can order Peloton shoes with cleats at the same time you order the Bike. But if you’re planning to get (or already have) another brand of indoor cycling shoes that are compatible with Delta cleats, those will work as well. “I found the Peloton shoes to run a little small, so you may want to size up,” Karen recommends. “And if you want to use cycling shoes that are SPD cleat compatible, you’ll need to swap out the pedals you get with the Bike for SPD pedals.” Another trick for finding your perfect fit when looking at different brands? Match your European shoe size, says Member Jaime T. You may find they fit more accurately. To do this, women should add 31 to their U.S. shoe size and men 33.

Try Some Accessories

You may find you don’t need much at first once your Bike is delivered, but these add-ons may make you more comfortable and accountable when it comes to sticking with your workouts:

  • A mini fan to clip onto the Bike: “Even though we have a ceiling fan where our Bike is, I got two of these to put on the Bike while I ride,” Karen says.

  • A gel seat cover that goes over the Bike seat

  • A smart TV so you can stream strength training classes as well as Bike Bootcamp from the Peloton App!

Now you’re ready for your first ride on your Peloton Bike. Here’s what you need to know about taking indoor cycling classes.
