Recovery is an essential part of a healthy fitness routine—and that applies to both your body and your equipment. In a commercial fitness center, it’s easy to rack up the miles on your Peloton Bike, Bike+, and Row. To keep everything operating at peak performance, it’s a good idea to perform regular maintenance on your equipment.
Think of it the same way you do a good stretch after an intense workout: It’s something that doesn’t take a lot of time, but pays off in dividends. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about taking care of your Peloton equipment and why the Commercial Preventative Maintenance package will help you make sure everything is in good working order to maximize your investment. That way, you can ensure your exercisers are set up to reach their full fitness potential.
Why It’s Important to Care for Your Peloton Equipment
Mindset is one of the most important components of any workout—and few things break a stride quite like out-of-order equipment. Whether faced with an unactivated Peloton Bike or an operational issue like concerning noises or a hard-to-adjust seat, gym-goers are likely to be frustrated when their exercise routine gets thrown out of whack. But with proactive maintenance, such as regular calibration of the Peloton Bike, Bike+, and Row, you can catch potential issues before they arise. Especially if your equipment has a high utilization rate, small adjustments—like pedal replacement—can ensure exercisers’ rides go as smoothly as possible.
How to Take Care of Your Peloton Equipment
Here’s the good news: Following just a few simple steps on a continual basis can help keep your equipment in great working order.
1. Clean Equipment After Workouts
It’s a standard part of gym etiquette—but in order to encourage exercisers to keep equipment clean for the next person, you’ll have to provide them with the right materials and instructions. A soft cloth, dampened with a mild, non-abrasive cleaning fluid, can do the trick to clean the seat and frame of your Peloton equipment. Avoid using any harsh cleansers like bleach or ammonia. You may also want to provide a dry cloth to wipe up any remaining moisture on the equipment after cleaning.
2. Keep Cords Safe
Maintaining electronic equipment requires diligence—especially when it’s subject to sweat and high-use. Keep power cords away from heated surfaces, sharp edges, and water and moisture of any kind. Keep cords away from paths of foot traffic to avoid tripping hazards, and never move your Peloton equipment by pulling on its cord.
3. Do a Monthly Deep Clean
With so many exercisers getting sweaty during their favorite Peloton workout, a deeper clean is necessary from time to time. On a monthly basis, you can unplug equipment and follow the same cleaning routine as described above, being even more diligent to make sure any remnants of sweat are wiped off the frame. Focus on “high-touch areas,” like seats, resistance knobs, and handles, and make sure the equipment dries completely, especially in areas with screws and exposed metal. Use an electronics wipe to clean touchscreens.
For the Peloton Row, follow one additional step: Clean the top and bottom surfaces of the track by removing the rail from the base and pushing a cotton ball along its full length, from back to front.
4. Regularly Update Software
The best part of a Peloton commercial subscription is that it allows exercisers to work out exactly how they want, to their favorite music, and with their favorite instructors like Emma Lovewell and Alex Toussaint. So a key part of Peloton equipment maintenance is making sure your commercial subscription is active, your software is up to date, and you’re connected to your local WiFi.
How Peloton’s Commercial Preventative Maintenance Package Can Help
We know that keeping your Peloton equipment in good working order is critical, especially if you have a well-trafficked fitness center. That’s why, when you purchase Peloton equipment for commercial use, new customers in the United States and Canada (in Peloton’s serviceable areas) will now have our Commercial Preventative Maintenance package added to their purchases, which will help keep it ready to ride and row, even as more exercisers take advantage of it.
With the Commercial Preventative Maintenance package, a Peloton-certified technician will make bi-annual visits to make sure that your Bike, Bike+, and/or Row are performing exactly the way you want them to. They’ll perform a number of proactive maintenance checks on your equipment, including cleaning, cord and wire checks, equipment stabilizing and calibration, and making sure that WiFi is connected and that equipment is on the commercial software. They’ll also check for abnormal noises, as well as mechanical and cosmetic issues. Plus, every six months, a technician will replace Bike and Bike+ pedals with a new set of dual-sided SPD pedals to address wear and tear.
Currently, the Commercial Preventative Maintenance package is only available to new customers who do not currently have Peloton equipment in their commercial fitness centers, but we are actively working to make this service available to existing commercial customers too.
