Before the lights, camera, and action of every Peloton class, instructors put in hours of prep—from developing the class plan to creating a killer playlist to coming up with a look that projects just the right vibe.
“The workout comes first, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t feel great whilst doing it,” says instructor Leanne Hainsby, who starts planning her outfits for special classes a month in advance. And when instructor Jon Hosking knows he’s nailed his look, he says he feels “absolutely tip-top and ready to rumble.”
Come behind the scenes with us as seven instructors share how they choose their outfits for class.

How do you decide what to wear for each class you teach?
My style on the mat is a combination of the music genre I am flowing to, my mood for the day, and comfort—always.
How far in advance do you typically plan your outfit choices?
I lay my clothes out the night before like it is the first day of school! I have a full routine of searching for my combinations starting at least an hour before I turn in for the night. I actually play the playlist of the class I am styling for while looking for my outfit. It never takes me a full hour, however, when I give myself that amount of time, I am in less of a panic if the combinations are not coming together like I thought they would.
What’s your favorite way to customize your look?
I crop EVERYTHING! I love a good cropped sweatshirt, long-sleeved shirt, or racerback tank. I love how I can get creative and make it my own.
How does it make you feel when you’ve nailed your look?
I feel really confident when I've nailed my look, especially when wearing Peloton Apparel, and I've created a nuanced style with a pair of scissors or bleach. It's like I can be a part of the collective and still let my personal unique style shine.
What’s your all-time favorite look?
The Peloton Apparel BHM 22 red, black, and green Flow Racer Tank I wore during the A Tribe Called Quest collaboration (that I of course cropped) and paired with the high-waist ATCQ leggings. I truly felt like the 1991 Low End Theory album cover by A Tribe Called Quest!
Jon Hosking (Running)
Do you match your outfits to the music, the class type or your mood?
To my mood! I try to be as vibrant as possible but might make an outfit more mono for a tougher fitness class.
How far in advance do you typically plan your outfit choices?
I do it the night before OR on the floor of the green room 10 minutes before I’m due in the studio.
What are some of your favorite things to wear?
I can’t remember a class I didn’t enjoy with either my headband/bandana or running sleeves on!
What’s your all-time favorite look?
An all grey and black look with run sleeves for a 20-minute rock run. It really got me in the mood, and I remember feeling great that day.
Leanne Hainsby (Cycling)
How do you decide what to wear for each class you teach?
I try to match my look to the vibe of the class, music, and mood. I think it creates a visual vibe for the workout, and hopefully helps make the ride more memorable for our Members. For 80s or pop classes, I like to bring a bright pop of colour to the mix. For a fitness ride, the outfit is always simple, as all attention is on fitness. For a special ride, I like to go all out, because it's fun for everyone. I never hold back on these!
How far in advance do you typically plan your outfit choices?
I usually decide on the day for a typical class, but for a special class, like my Spice Girls ride, I probably spend up to a month working on these looks. I want everything to feel great from top to toe to add to the magic of the moment.
What are some of your favorite accessories?
A scrunchie to match my outfit is my go-to, as I feel it always brings a look together. And something sparkly for a special ride, because it always looks great on camera and brings some glamour to the Bike!
How does it make you feel when you’ve nailed your look?
It feels fun to be fully embracing a look, and I just enjoy thinking that it's exciting for everyone at home.
What’s your all-time favorite look?
My Spice Girls look is my favourite look ever. I felt like a Spice Girl, and that was a dream come true!
Bradley Rose (Cycling)
How do you decide what to wear for each class you teach?
It really depends on how I feel. But I don’t pre-plan…I’m a very in-the-moment person. I usually pick as I’m getting ready to leave. It’s that simple!
Do you have a favorite color to wear?
Bright colours are my thing. I’m usually wearing a pop of bright neon colour, whether that’s my shorts or shirt.
How does it make you feel when you’ve nailed your look?
I feel confident! That’s all it is for me. As long as I feel confident, I’m good to go.
Do you have any favorite pieces to wear?
My bright-orange neon Peloton top. Or the bright-pink neon shorts. Those would have to be my two faves!
Aditi Shah (Yoga & Pilates)
How do you decide what to wear for each class you teach?
I think about what the mood/vibe of each class is and try to pick my outfits accordingly. When I am teaching series or linked classes, I often wear the same set for every class of the series so that it's easy to tell from the screengrab that the classes are linked.
How far in advance do you typically plan your outfit choices?
Once in a blue moon, I will plan all of my outfits for the week ahead of time…but most of the time, I end up choosing outfits the night before or the day of. I usually start by choosing the pants I want to wear and then try on a few different tops that could match it well. If I'm in a rush, it sometimes looks like a hurricane passed through my closet.
Do you have a favorite color to wear?
I love wearing bright colors because they pop in the room, and they pick me up!
How does it make you feel when you’ve nailed your look?
There are definitely some classes, especially special classes, where I know that the look really does make a huge impact and helps to lend to the "specialness” of the class. When I feel like I've nailed it, I feel excited to share!
What’s your all-time favorite look you wore to teach?
I loved my Beyoncé fit because I wore an Indian top, and it is so beautiful!
Tobias Heinze (Running)
How do you decide what to wear for each class you teach?
My daughters chose the colours and then I check to make sure it fits with the class type. My daughters paint my nails according to the outfit.
How far in advance do you typically plan your outfit choices?
I plan it quite spontaneously. I have a Peloton locker at home, and my daughters pick the clothes the day before the class.
What are some of your favorite items to wear?
My favorite outfit for running is short running shorts (5” and below) and a tank top. I like monochrome colours. Additionally, I love to wear headbands. They keep sweat out of my eyes and give me the opportunity to cover my ears when I run outside.
How does it make you feel when you’ve nailed your look?
I feel fantastic and get a lot of Member feedback!
Charlotte Weidenbach (Cycling)
How do you decide what to wear for each class you teach?
I decide mainly by class type and music, but I also try and change colours as much as possible, so I filter the screengrabs by my name and look up the outfits I wore recently in order to try and vary colours and styles.
How far in advance do you typically plan your outfit choices?
I normally plan for the week ahead, so on Sundays, I think about the plan for the week. Otherwise, it will always happen that something is still not washed that I absolutely want to wear!
Do you have a favorite color to wear?
I love black, shiny, high-neck outfits. They're dark and sexy but also SO comfortable and sporty. I absolutely LOVE wearing black, especially with the light-blue background at Peloton Studios London. I think it looks great, and it really suits me and my class style too.
How does it make you feel when you’ve nailed your look?
I feel like the class gets even better—I have more energy, as I'm feeling incredible, and it shows.
What’s your all-time favorite look?
The dark, flower-printed outfit I wore for my premiere ride is by far my favourite look. It combines dark, cute, sexy, sporty, and stylish. I just feel so understood by this outfit!
