How to Prep for Your Peloton Tread Delivery

If you’re anxiously awaiting your Peloton Tread, you may find yourself twiddling your thumbs until delivery day. But if you want to start sweating immediately after its arrival, there are a few simple prep steps that can help. Here, we share tips to help you get your Tread set up, plus Members share their go-to gear purchases they made to boost their workouts.

Make Sure You Have Enough Room

For taller runners, place your Tread in an area that has high ceilings. This is all relative to your own height, of course. A good rule of thumb is to make sure your ceiling height minimum is 20 inches greater than your height. Depending on the layout of your house, this may mean finding a space in your basement or garage near a dedicated outlet, where some ceilings can be higher.

Also keep in mind that the screen size for the Tread is much larger than the one on the Peloton Bike. Give yourself 24 inches of space to the left and right for the Tread.

Consider Purchasing Fitness Flooring

Member Erick S. has a dedicated room with gym flooring for his Tread. If you’re looking to build up a home gym, that might be a worthwhile investment for you. Or, you can just put down a hard and thick mat—Member Ellen B. suggests trying what’s called a horse mat—that won’t curl up and get in the way of the Tread’s front wheels. (No, you can’t use an old yoga mat here.)

If, however, you’re putting your Tread on a low pile carpet, you won’t want to use a mat. Just make sure it’s on a flat, stable surface and avoid higher, fluffier-carpeted areas.

Get the Right Gear

“I like having Bluetooth headphones to listen to music or the instructor during a class,” Erick says. While wired headphones will do the trick too, Bluetooth ones are better suited, as a cord can interfere with your speed or cadence if it’s not long enough. Any Bluetooth pair will work, but the recommended brands that have been Tread-tested and approved include JBL X Peloton earbuds, Apple Airpods, Powerbeats and Urbanears Hellas Headphones.

And don’t forget the essentials for cleaning up all that sweat after a workout: “I make sure I always have extra towels on hand,” adds Ellen. “And a good equipment wipe is a must.”
