Name: Andre De Grasse
Age: 26
Life motto: “Speak it into existence.”
Favorite hype music: Hip hop and R&B
Did you know? Andre’s first time competing in track was at age 17.
Andre De Grasse’s lightning speed wasn’t at first noticed on the track. Not because he was slow. But because you wouldn’t find him on a track.Instead, you’d find him on the basketball court......Where his speed was plenty evident. And when he finally found a home on the track at age 17, Andre stepped into his full potential.
Now, six years into his professional career with no less than seven medals across the Olympics and World Championships, Andre is one of the most decorated Canadian sprinters in history. But there’s no stopping there—everything he’s achieved thus far is just fuel to think bigger, run faster and climb higher. “My kids, my family and friends inspire me to keep showing up,” says Andre, a dedicated father to three little ones. Because to get where he’s aiming, toward world records and beyond, consistently showing up is nothing short of crucial. Andre’s advice to aspiring champions is to “dream big, stay committed and stay focused on your goals.” We’ll extrapolate and take these words to heart for everything we’re going after.
Not unlike his journey to finding his passion on the track, Andre’s start with Peloton simmered for a little while before coming to a full-on boil. “I originally bought a Peloton Bike for my girlfriend, who wanted to stay in shape during pregnancy. [Andre’s girlfriend, by the way, is Nia Ali, reigning American World Champion in the 100-meter hurdles.] It looked like a lot of fun, so I started doing some workouts myself. At first it was just for active recovery days, but then I found myself doing some real workouts.” We only wish we were there for the first time Andre clipped in and experienced the joy of a class for himself! As a father, Andre’s discovery of just how fun and effective training with the Bike is has proven to be game changing. “Before I became a father, I could take a nap or chill out on the couch just about anytime I wanted,” he says. “Now, I need to plan ahead and coordinate … based on the schedule of my children and my girlfriend. It’s great because I have my Bike set up outside on my patio where I can watch the kids playing [in the backyard].” He’s also a pro at squeezing in a workout during nap time!
If there’s one thing we take away from Andre’s story, it’s his emphasis on curating the energy around him as a performance strategy—from family to training partners. “I’m lucky to train with a group of professional athletes. We push each other in practice, and on really hard days, it's easier to suffer as a group versus being all on your own,” Andre says. He finds that same sentiment to be true of the Peloton community. “Regardless of my mood, I always feel energized by the instructors … and I use the Leaderboard to get my competitive juices flowing!”
Anyone else really, really want to be teammates with Andre? Well, now you can! Train like he trains with four days of curated Peloton class stacks, with workouts ranging from hip hop rides to HIIT cardio. And, join him on the Leaderboard (look for #AndreDeGrasse) for a very special Father’s Day ride with Kendall, on June 20 at 8 AM ET.
Let’s sprint to the finish together. Check out Andre’s stacks below and find all the classes in the Champions Collection.
