Music Moments: From Korea and India to Hawaii, Celebrate the Rich Musical Talents of Asian Pacific Islander Artists

Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a time to celebrate and honor the diaspora of diverse Asian experiences. Throughout the year, Peloton continues to support and shine a light on the Asian Pacific Islander culture but in May specifically, Peloton invited Members to celebrate the unique identities and stories through music, themed classes, apparel and more.
Music is such an integral part of the Peloton experience, so one of the ways we celebrated Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month this year was through highlighting diverse Asian and Pacific Islander artists as part of our signature Artist Series classes. Ranging from K-pop, to Bollywood-inspired playlists, to retro R&B, it was our goal to bring our Members unique programming experiences that honor Asian and Pacific Islander stories and culture through music. We were excited to bring the diverse musical lineup to our Members during this year’s celebrations to educate our community through these rich cultural experiences. For more of these amazing artists, check out Blackpink’s recently released movie, which hit theaters on August 4, Bruno Mars’ tour around the globe this summer, or catch any of their Peloton classes on-demand.
A deep dive into our APHIM music moments
We started celebrating the month with our BLACKPINK Artist Series, including a Cycling, HIIT Cardio and Yoga class. While you may have heard their music before, you may not know some of the fun facts behind the music you loved in class:

BLACKPINK
This four-member group is the highest-charting female Korean act on the Billboard Hot 100, has set records for the most-viewed music video within the first 24 hours of release, and has set two Guinness World Records - just to name a few of the many awards and titles they’ve secured since their 2016 debut
The meaning behind the name “BLACKPINK” aims to contradict the common perception of the color pink, which is commonly used to portray prettiness. BLACKPINK selected their name to symbolize they embody not only beauty, but also great talent.

We continued the month with a Raveena Yoga class. What you may not know about Raveena:
Raveena grew up in a traditional Sikh household, being exposed to R&B, Soul, Jazz and Folk music, which is eventually what piqued her interest in music and influenced her musical style.
Now, Raveena balances R&B with traditions from the South Asian diaspora in her music style, bringing a Bollywood flair to the genre.

Silk Sonic rounded out our diverse musical lineup for the month, with classes across Cycling, Bike Bootcamp, Running, Pilates, Yoga and Strength:
This newly-formed R&B duo, made up of artists Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, has two songs to date, and made its performance debut at the 2021 Grammy Awards
Their song, ‘Leave the Door Open’ hit the top of the Billboard Charts in only four weeks; the fastest to ever do so by male artists
