People with a growth mindset are resilient individuals who tend to take on new challenges, leading them down the path of, well, personal growth. They believe that with proper effort and commitment, we are all capable of more, and they aren’t afraid of putting in the work to learn and grow.
Even if that doesn’t sound quite like your current perspective, experts say it’s never too late to challenge yourself to adopt a growth mindset. They recommend digging deep and reframing existing thoughts, trading negative self-talk for more positive thinking, setting attainable goals, and finding an accountability partner. But if you’re looking for an extra dose of motivation, growth mindset quotes can help keep you in the right frame of mind, too.
What Is a Growth Mindset?
“If you have a growth mindset, you believe that if you don’t know something, you can learn and acquire this talent by making an honest effort,” says Carl Nassar, PhD, a psychotherapist and a licensed professional counselor based in Denver. “You know it may be hard, but you believe you can learn just about anything when you put your mind to it and put your time into it.”
Basically, if you give something the time and effort, you can eventually master it. For example, maybe you think you’re not much of a runner, but would like that to change. Instead of resigning yourself to never running a 5K, you believe that by following a training plan with realistic and achievable milestones, you will one day be able to do it.
This way of thinking is essential to achieving fitness and wellness goals, Nassar says. But the path isn’t necessarily an easy one. “There’s no doubt, for those of us wanting to improve our health, that it’s hard work and sometimes we just want to give up,” he says. “But if we have a growth mindset, we’ll believe that the hard times are just part of the journey, not the end of the road.”

How Can These Quotes Help You Embrace a Growth Mindset?
There are a number of things we can do to help ourselves maintain a growth mindset—to see life as a continual learning opportunity, a chance to learn from the mistakes as well as the successes, and discover how to build a better life for yourself.
Your inner voice is one of the best places to start, Nassar says. “First, we listen to all the voices in our own heads with compassion,” he explains. “Then, we soothe those voices that insist we can’t grow and learn, and encourage those inner voices that tell us to give it a go.” When we take the time to connect with quotes about a growth mindset, they can help affirm that positive inner voice, giving us an extra dose of encouragement.
